DRUMNASIUM

Drum & Percussion Work & Play-Shop

I can bring the DRUMNASIUM to any situation where the participants want to give it a try...

Any Age - Any Ability - everyone welcome - no previous experience required-!

All I need is some workshop space and some free standing chairs

It's ideal for Stress Busting, Community Building or simply sharring Creative Play with like minded people...

DRUMNASIUM sessions are experiential, based on tried and tested "in the moment music" techniques, rhythm games and improvisation. Using rhythm event technology, I invite participants to explore and experience playing drums and percussion as part of a group. Particpants are encouraged to find their voice, to use their imagination and develop their creativity....

DRUMNASIUM sessions are adapted to participants need and much emphasis is put on group safety and inclusion...

I use a mixture of drums and percussion instruments that may include Conga, Djembe, Ashiko and Native American 'Medicine' drums, similarly the percussion may include Claves, Agogo and Guiro - instruments you tap and scrape; Maracas, Caxixi and Ganza's - instruments you shake. I frequently use Boomwhackers and Sound Shapes which are dedicated workshop instruments and for quieter sessions there's vibratone, singing bowls and frog guiros.

I provide the instruments…

…you may bring your own...

DRUMNASIUM sessions are not 'culturally specific' although participants may find that during a session they experience sounds and rhythms from a diverse range of cultural & world music traditions...

If your are looking for an educational bias, I can incorporate historical information and culturally specific identification of the instruments when introducing them to the participants. If you require, I will include instruction in the 'traditional' way to hold and play each instrument. I have available a double sided information sheet -a 'handout' to remind participants of the session. If you require I can tailor make a 'certificate of participation' that identifies the learning that has taken place...

DRUMNASIUM session can last from 20 minutes -a taster, to a couple of hours or a whole day, or even a week of programmed activities...

DRUMNASIUM sessions are 'hands on' and definitly not 'elitist' or for 'musicians only' however, I believe that even those individuals can benefit from sharing this experience with the 'beginning beginner' or even the 'self described' 'rhythmically challenged-!'

DRUMNASIUM sessions are not for spectators, if you are in the room you are encouraged to participate…

...and my concept is simple…

' PARTICIPATE - CREATE - CELEBRATE '

...as stated above, all I need is a workspace and some free standing chairs, I may ask that you provide a reasonable amount of your staff to help if your group is mixed in terms of age and / or ability. Similarly if your client group has a specific sensory, physical or other health challenge, I would trust that specifically trained support staff would also take part in the session to enable your clients to participant in the session. And I can work with your staff to enable them to give your clients the best possible experience...

I can work with very small groups, say 5 to 8 participants, although 30 to 50 would be nearer the norm, 60 to 100 a large group, however, I can work with much larger groups if required...similarly I can work with transient participants where individuals come and go as they please - whatever your event i'm sure there is a DRUMNASIUM programme that will suit you…and if you have somthing specific in mind I can design a programme to suit your needs...just let me know what it is...

My fee's are negotiable and are based on your event logistics and the number of expected participants...
